Type Locality and Naming

North Zhejiang. The Pingshui Fm was named by the Party of Regional Geological Survey, Zhejiang Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1990 and published in 1992 by Lin Qinglong (as aa Pingshui Gr). The type section is in Hengbangling, Bingkang and Baihedian, Pingshui Township, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. Lowermost formation of the Shuangxiwu Gr.

Synonym: (平水组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Pingshui Fm is litho logically composed of metamorphosed spilite, spilitic porphyrite, spilitic tuff, brecciated vitroclastic tuff, keratophyre and tuff, intercalated with chert, siltstone, sandstone, sandstone-conglomerate and mudstone. The exposed thickness is recorded as over 2943 m.

Lower contact

Bottom is not seen.

Upper contact

It is in fault contact with overlying Beiwu Fm

Regional extent

North Zhejiang. It is distributed mainly around Pingshui, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province.

There is a SHRIMP U-Pb date of 905±6 Ma from the Pingshui Fm (Gao Linzhi et al., 2014). earliest Qingbaikouan (earliest Tonian) on schematic stratigraphic section.
